Blizzard and church cancellation

Well the “Blizzard of 2010” is upon us and the snow has fallen very heavy. This is early Saturday morning and I was hoping it would bypass us a little as I knew church would be affected by the deepness of the snow. Well the call came for us to activate the phone tree for our ministries…no church. The decision came early today and it was a hard one to make. I am a little conflicted….I actually do love the snow but I love church more. To me, church is not an organization but the gathering of God’s people to worship and share life together. It’s God giving us community. Church is the touch of heaven. Church is people. Church is relational. No wonder, we’re commanded in Scripture not to forsake gathering together (Hebrews 10:25). As a pastor, I hate missing church or even having a significant number of our church family miss. So when we get a winter like this, I am conflicted. We’re already had a snow or ice effect on four or five of our Sundays. This is our second cancellation of the season. When we can’t all come together, it affects our forward momentum and for that, I am conflicted.
But I know who controls the universe and its weather elements. And that Person is not me thank goodness. God is in control and so I must submit my conflicted soul into the care of the only true WEATHERMAN! God controls the weather and He and only He knows what is best. So don’t let stress over take us on these weekend snows? Instead lets embrace the moment and pause to watch the snow, be with our family. Looking always for the sun…Son
