Continuing Series in the Life of a Pastoral Care Pastor

June 3, 2010, –Thursday: Today started with my alarm clock having a mistake during the night…she had a bowl movement and was afraid to wake me up…but I got up at my normal time and wondered why she hadn’t got me up…in the master bathroom floor I found out the reason. Since I just got her home it was kinda hard to be mad at her but I did show my dissatisfaction with her before taking her outside. I am on vacation this week but had to go into the office to interview two candidates for my admin position. Have already interviewed one lady and she is certainly the frontrunner at this point but we are praying for God to tell us the right person. Interviewed two ladies for the open position and both did a good job in the interview. I will be interviewing two more on Monday and make a decision on Monday evening or Tuesday morning. Jeanette and I had the couple over for our normal meeting to discuss pre-marital issues. Had a good last session and they will be coming back in two weeks for dinner to discuss any wrap-up issues. Had a new front door delivered this morning and it is scheduled to be installed Friday…my normal golf day…install door…play golf…install door….play golf and the saga continues…will let you know of my decision tomorrow.

Books Currently Reading: I have added 2012 The Bible and the End of the World by Mark Hitchcock; Sheep in Wolves Clothing by Valerie J. McIntyre; Lucifer Exposed by Derek Prince.
I just finished Lasting Impressions by Mark Waltz. Mark wrote a very good book that offers many insights into how we should be treating our “guests” as they arrive on Sunday mornings to attend church. We should all be so concerned for the souls which God brings to us that we want nothing to hinder them from hearing the Gospel and letting the Holy Spirit have a chance to convict them and maybe today will be the day of salvation for them. Good book and I recommend it to everyone. I added 2012 End of the World because there is much talk about when will the world end…will it be December 12, 2012 as the Mayan calendar says. It’s always nice to be reminded what the bible has to say about the end times. On the horizon is a book I have already read earlier this year entitled As America Has Done To Israel by John P. McTernan. He lays out the disasters which we (America) have endured because we turned our back on Israel. It’s was amazing the first time I read it and I am looking forward to re-reading and refreshing my mind on these matters.

Current Bible Readings / Studies: This morning in my devotions I ran across this message from Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman a famous evangelist who died in 1918. I studied from some of his works in one of my bible classes and remember he wrote a hymn entitled Jesus’ What a Friend of Sinners. He also penned the words of two others but what drew me to him as I was searching was his statement from one of his many papers entitled: Friends of Jesus’ Patients. In this he said “that the New Testament records tell of forty people, each suffering from the same diseases, which were healed by Jesus. Of this number, thirty-four were either brought to Jesus by friends, or He was taken to them. In only six cases out of forty did the sufferers find the way to Jesus without any assistance other than the Holy Spirit. Of the vast number of people who find their way to Jesus today, most of them reach Him because the friends of Jesus are concerned about the welfare of their souls.” This caused me to think of my own salvation and the folks who prayed for me and I remember they are “friends of Jesus” and were concerned for my soul. We need to also bring as many people as we can to Jesus the great healer of our souls.

Devotions: Still currently reading through the bible with a program that chronologically lays out the scriptures in the sequence they occurred or more likely to have occurred. It has many footnotes and is a very intense program designed by a member of my church and my golfing buddy.
